Freshman -Must -Haves

Last year this time I was preparing to send my son off to his first year of college.  This would be his first time away from the family. Naturally as I mom I wanted to make sure he had everything he needed. Below are 10 freshman –must-haves.

1.       Organizers- Containers for storage (closet & under bed storage). The dollar store has small boxes to match your room décor.

2.       Laundry basket or bag- Choose a basket that has handles, it makes things easier for carrying large amount of clothes. You can also purchase laundry baskets with sections for sorting colors and whites.

3.       Power surge strip- This will allow kids to plug in several items (alarm clock, lamp, charger, and refrigerator).

4.       Alarm clock- Mom won’t be there to wake them and will keep them on schedule.

5.       Dishes, utensils, refrigerator, microwave- Depends on your type of housing it is great to be able to cook simple things in dorm room. Check college policy on microwaves and refrigerators.

6.       Toiletries, cleaning supplies, trash can -Nobody is going cleanup for you if you mess up be prepared to clean up (broom, dusk pan, mop and detergent).

7.       Shower caddy- An easy way to transport all your personal items to the shower.

8.       Personal lighting- A lamp for your desk area or bed light for late night studying or reading.

9.       Curtain- Hang by your desk or by your bed for privacy.

10.   Proper bedding, linens, rug- A comforter and sheets with pillow and favorite blanket to make you feel at home.
